Moderation, Reporting & Content Removal The GAMC Community is intended to support open, respectful, and constructive discussion. Moderation helps maintain that environment so that members can participate without being subjected to harassment, spam, abuse, or deliberate disruption. Moderation is not intended to prevent members from expressing different opinions. Members are allowed to disagree. The focus of moderation is on how discussions are conducted and whether content follows the Community Ground Rules. What May Be Reported? Members may report posts, replies, or other content that they believe violates the Community Ground Rules. Examples include: Personal attacks, insults, or abusive language. Harassment, threats, or intimidation. Hate-based or discriminatory content. Spam or repetitive unwanted posts. Unwanted advertising or solicitation. Deliberate disruption or repeated attempts to derail discussions. Content that is substantially unrelated to the topic. Posting another person's private or sensitive information without permission. Content intended primarily to provoke, harass, or inflame rather than contribute to the discussion. Other content that appears to violate the site's rules or interfere with the community's ability to participate constructively. Reporting is encouraged when you believe something needs moderator attention. Please do not use reporting simply because you disagree with someone's opinion or because a member expressed a viewpoint you do not share. What Happens When Something Is Reported? A report brings the content to the attention of the appropriate moderator or administrator for review. Depending on the circumstances, a moderator may: Leave the content as posted. Ask a member to modify or clarify a post. Edit or remove content that violates the rules. Hide content while it is being reviewed. Lock a topic so that additional replies cannot be added. Temporarily or permanently restrict a member's participation. Take other appropriate action when necessary to protect the community. Not every report will result in content being removed. Moderators may consider the context of a discussion, the nature of the content, whether a rule was violated, and whether the issue appears to be an isolated incident or part of a repeated pattern. Content May Be Edited or Removed Content that violates the Community Ground Rules may be edited, hidden, or removed. In some situations, moderators may remove only the portion of a post that violates the rules rather than removing the entire contribution. In other circumstances, the entire post or discussion may need to be removed or locked. Content may also be temporarily hidden while a report or moderation issue is being reviewed. Topics May Be Locked A discussion may be locked when continued posting is no longer productive or when a conversation has become disruptive. A topic may also be locked when: The discussion has reached its intended conclusion. The conversation has repeatedly moved off topic. Members are engaging in escalating personal conflicts. The discussion is being deliberately disrupted. Continued participation would make effective moderation difficult. Locking a topic does not necessarily mean that every post within it violated the rules. Moderation Decisions Moderators will make reasonable efforts to apply the Community Ground Rules consistently and fairly. However, not every situation will be identical. Moderators may consider the circumstances and context when deciding what action, if any, is appropriate. A moderation decision does not mean that the moderator is taking a position on the underlying issue being discussed. A post may be moderated because of how the discussion is being conducted, even when the underlying opinion or subject is perfectly appropriate for the community. Disagreements With Moderation Members may disagree with a moderation decision. If you have a question or concern about a moderation action, please raise it through the appropriate communication channel rather than continuing an argument within the public discussion. Please do not use another forum topic, repeated posts, or personal attacks against moderators to challenge a moderation decision. Moderation decisions are made to support the community as a whole, and moderators may choose not to engage in extended public discussions about individual moderation actions. A Shared Responsibility Moderators cannot be present in every conversation or see every issue immediately. Members can help by reporting concerns when they encounter content that appears to violate the Community Ground Rules and by avoiding personal confrontations with other members. The goal of moderation is simple: Keep GAMC a place where people can participate, express different viewpoints, and have meaningful conversations without being subjected to harassment, abuse, spam, or deliberate disruption.
