Poll Participation & Discussion Guidelines GAMC uses both polls and discussion forums to give members different ways to participate and share their perspectives. Polls can provide a quick way to understand how members feel about a particular question, while the discussion that follows can provide the context, reasoning, and different perspectives behind those responses. Participate Honestly When participating in a poll, please vote based on your own opinion or perspective. Please do not attempt to manipulate poll results by submitting multiple responses, coordinating artificial responses, or otherwise attempting to make the results appear different from the genuine participation of the community. The value of a poll depends on members participating honestly. Discuss the Results Respectfully Poll results may produce strong reactions—especially when the results are unexpected or when members have significantly different opinions. That's okay. You are welcome to question the results, explain why you agree or disagree with them, or offer another perspective. However, do not attack, insult, or harass people because of how they voted. A poll result represents the responses of participating members. It does not make one group of participants "right" and another group "wrong." Distinguish Opinions From Facts When discussing a poll or related topic, please distinguish between what you believe and what can be supported as factual information. For example: Opinion: "I believe this would be the best approach for our community." Fact-based claim: "The proposal would change X by doing Y." Opinions are welcome. When making factual claims, particularly about important or controversial subjects, members are encouraged to provide reliable sources or supporting information when possible. Remember that saying something with confidence does not necessarily make it a fact. Polls Are One Piece of the Conversation Poll results can help us understand community perspectives, but they should be viewed in context. A poll is not necessarily a formal vote, election, scientific survey, or official representation of everyone in the broader community. Results reflect the people who chose to participate and the question and choices presented in that particular poll. The discussion surrounding a poll can be just as valuable as the numbers themselves. Participate. Discuss. Listen. Whether you're answering a poll or joining the conversation afterward, the goal is the same: Share your perspective honestly, listen to other perspectives, and help make the conversation more informative and constructive. Different opinions are part of a healthy community. How we discuss those differences is what makes the GAMC Community valuable.
