Community Ground Rules The GAMC Community is intended to be a place for thoughtful discussion, differing viewpoints, and meaningful civic conversation. People will not always agree—and that's okay. In fact, respectful disagreement can make a discussion more useful by allowing members to consider perspectives they may not have encountered before. To keep the community productive and welcoming, we ask all members to follow these basic ground rules. 1. Disagree With Ideas—Not People You are welcome to disagree with another member's opinion, position, or interpretation. Please focus your response on what someone has said, rather than attacking the person who said it. Personal insults, name-calling, belittling, or questioning someone's intelligence or character do not contribute to productive discussion. Challenge the idea, not the individual. 2. Keep Discussions Respectful Members come from different backgrounds and may have very different experiences and opinions. Treat other members with courtesy, even when you strongly disagree with them. Avoid language that is threatening, abusive, degrading, or intentionally inflammatory. A strong opinion is welcome. Disrespect is not. 3. Stay on Topic Each forum topic is intended to focus on a particular subject. Please keep your contributions reasonably related to the topic being discussed. If a conversation develops into a substantially different subject, it may be better to start a new discussion rather than taking the existing conversation in another direction. 4. No Harassment or Intimidation GAMC should be a place where people can participate without being subjected to harassment or intimidation. Repeatedly targeting another member, making threatening comments, directing abusive messages at someone, or continuing unwanted personal contact is not acceptable. Disagreement should never become personal harassment. 5. No Deliberate Disruption Please don't intentionally disrupt discussions or make it difficult for others to participate. This includes repeatedly posting the same material, deliberately derailing conversations, flooding a discussion with excessive or irrelevant posts, or attempting to provoke members simply to create conflict. Debate is welcome. Deliberate disruption is not. 6. No Spam or Unwanted Promotion The forums are intended for genuine community discussion. Please don't use discussions to post spam, repetitive promotional material, unrelated advertisements, or solicitations. Sharing a relevant resource or information can be helpful, but it should contribute to the conversation rather than simply promote a product, service, organization, or website. 7. Participate in Good Faith Please assume that other members are participating with genuine intentions unless there is a clear reason to believe otherwise. Ask questions when something is unclear. Give others an opportunity to explain their position. Avoid deliberately misrepresenting someone's comments or taking statements out of context simply to create conflict. 8. Respect Privacy Please be thoughtful about sharing personal information about yourself or others. Do not post another person's private information without their permission. If you are unsure whether something is appropriate to share publicly, it is better to leave it out. 9. Political and Civic Discussions GAMC is intended to provide a nonpartisan environment for civic discussion. Members may discuss candidates, elections, government, public policy, and other political or civic issues. However, those discussions should remain focused on the issues rather than becoming personal attacks, partisan campaigning, or harassment of people who hold different views. You can strongly support a position while still treating people who disagree with you respectfully. 10. Help Keep the Community Constructive Before you post, consider: Is it relevant? Is it respectful? Does it contribute something useful to the conversation? If the answer is yes, you're probably on the right track. Moderation GAMC reserves the right to moderate content that violates these ground rules or interferes with the ability of others to participate in the community. Depending on the circumstances, moderation may include removing or editing inappropriate content, closing a discussion, limiting participation, or taking other appropriate action. Our goal is not to prevent disagreement. Our goal is to make constructive disagreement possible. Thank you for helping make GAMC a community where people can exchange ideas, ask questions, and participate in meaningful conversations—even when they don't all see things the same way.
